When this feeling of stagnation becomes chronic, it produces a sense of frustrated helplessness. If any progress is to come, it must come through an influence beyond the person himself, he thinks. This is an attempt to throw responsibility elsewhere, to a deliverer or guru who will take over and carry him to the goal.
